General Admission: In 1953 the General Admission was 35 cents.

Fair Cancelled: In 1955 the Bridgewater Fair was cancelled by the State Police due to floods in Western Connecticut.

Raffle: The raffle was begun in 1956 after the fair was closed in 1955 and was suggested by Walter Von Egidy Sr.

Baked Goods: In 1956 all flowers, plants, fruits, and vegetables and baked goods were auctioned after judging.

Security: In the early years of the fair, security was provided by the fireman who stayed overnight at the fairgrounds.

Chicken Dinner: For many years the firemen cooked the chicken dinner down behind Burnham School. In the mid 1970's the chicken was barbecued with that special sauce on the fairgrounds and the dinner was served in the Firehouse.

Main Food Tent: Through 1971 there was only the Main Food Tent. Hamburgers, hot dogs, etc. were eaten morning, noon, and night. The following two years chicken, knockwurst, and pizza were started and the Main Food Tent included breakfast and new items to the general menu. Fifty years later we have seven good tents all operated by Bridgewater Firemen and friends.

Parade: The parade began in 1956 with Charlie Couch as Parade Chairman. Dave Lathrop, our present Parade Chairman, has been Chairman for 21 years. The largest parade consisted of 47 fire departments.

Entertainment: Entertainment for the Fair has included Horseshoe pitching contests, Bingo, pie eating and hay bale throwing contests. The Bandstand Entertainment has had a Vaudeville and Band Concert by Buck Rock Camp of New Milford, Bongo the Clown, Brad and the C Notes (Brad Paisley now in the Country Hall of Fame), The Litchfield Hills Pipes and Drums Scottish Band, Flashback Band (50's and 60's Rock & Roll), and of course the Jazzercise Show.

Commercial Vendors and Advertisers: Some of our long time commercial vendors have been Campbell's, Ruwet & Sibley, Valley Dodge, and Ann Marie Candies.

Our advertisers from the Fair Book have been Coyle's, Garrity's, New Milford Foundry, New Milford Feed Barn, Bob Grey, Morey's, Shallowbrook, Home Oil, Straiton, and many others that supported us over the years.
