The town of Bridgewater is one of only two towns in Connecticut where NO town taxes are used to support the Fire Department's and EMS annual budget!!

On the income side, the Fire Department and EMS rely on its Fundraisers (Fair, etc) and donations. In addition to building and grounds maintenance, our primary expenses are equipment maintenance and replacement.

OUR MISSION
Whether the emergency is fire, accident, medical, search and rescue, hazardous material - the Bridgewater Fire Department and Emergency Medical Service is ready to help. You should know that all firemen and EMS personnel have spent many classroom hours in training and are state certified for the positions they fill.

HOUSE NUMBERS

To help the Police, Fire Dept., and EMS locate your house quickly, your house should be clearly marked with your house number. Critical time may be lost if you have no house number.

House numbers can be affixed to your mailbox (both sides) or next to the front door.

House numbers ideally should be at least 4 inches tall and reflective.

MEDICATIONS &
ALLERGIES

When EMS personnel respond to emergencies in the home, you can help us by having for each person in your household a list of current medications, allergies, and a brief medical history.

This information will be given to emergency room doctors at the hospital.

Where to keep this information so that it is readily available?
Some organizations suggest that your refrigerator's freezer is the best place for this information. Here is a link for more info.

The Fire Department and EMS are always looking for new members. The Fire Chief and EMS coordinator will welcome your phone call. You may wish to first pay an informal visit to the Fire House on Thursdays between 7 and 9 pm. Or you may wish to first explore some of the links on the left. In any event, we'd like to hear from you.

The Bridgewater Fire Department and Emergency Medical Service are all-volunteer. With various levels of professional training you can qualify to be a fireman and/or an EMS responder.

But there are other ways you can volunteer! Think of the Fire Department and EMS as CIVIC organizations, which of course we are.

Like all civic organizations, we have a primary purpose. But we have activities and events that support that purpose - activities that rely on a wide range of talents. We have fundraising and social events that require talents in the area of planning, budgeting, publicity, computer, public relations, administration, execution, and so on.
