Friday August 4, 2006 Wayne F. and Dick J. met Ed Smith at his boat club in Groton. After reminising a bit we loaded our (too much) stuff on the boat and sailed to Shelter Island, near the end of Long Island. As you can see, Dick and Wayne lounged around while Ed did all the work.
The event was billed as a bicycle/sailing trip. Below Wayne and Dick's bikes are lashed to the boat.
We moored at Coecles Harbor on the east side of Shelter Island. We prevailed on a fellow sailor rowing to the dock to take our pic.
Ed and Dick slept on the seats in the cockpit. Dick took the photo below at about 5:45 am and went immediately back to sleep.
Breakfast - Ed provided all the food. Wayne and Dick were very impressed with the quality, quantity and variety. If you ever get an invitation from Ed, by all means take it. You'll also be impressed.
On Sat, Wayne and Dick rode (after being rowed - see below) 67 miles round-trip to the lighthouse at Montuk Pt at the eastern end of L.I.
It's a good thing we took a group picture before the bike trip because we crashed on the porch for about 2 hours when we got back. We were not a pretty sight.
Above, a pic from on top of the lighthouse.
Notice that Wayne has grown a bit more since his HS days.
Compare the two bodies. All the tourists insisted that Wayne put his shirt back on.
Had a good sail on the way back.
Back in port around noon on Sunday - this was supposed to be a photo of captain Ed (see his arm) who got us safely home - but Wayne lowered the boom.
